Is today Blast’s last day? What should you do if you still have funds on-chain?
Today, October 26, is the “normal withdrawal deadline” set by Blast, the Ethereum Layer 2 network.
According to an October 2 announcement from Blast’s official X account, the network’s operating costs have exceeded its revenue, and the team sees no path to making it self-sustaining, so it has decided to shut it down. The team is asking users to withdraw their assets to Ethereum mainnet, including balances held in Blast PWA. The withdrawal waiting period has been shortened to 24 hours. You can use the normal withdrawal interface through October 26. After that, assets “can still be withdrawn,” but you’ll need to interact directly with the Blast bridge contract on Ethereum mainnet. The team says it will provide detailed instructions separately.
Exchanges are also watching the clock: Coinbase’s status page says that any BLAST not transferred off Coinbase by October 26 will become inaccessible after the network shuts down.
Here’s the hard truth: when a chain shuts down, it won’t notify you one by one. The excitement of earning points and farming airdrops together eventually comes down to a single deadline.
If you still have assets there, do these three things:
1. Act today. Don’t bet on the normal withdrawal interface still being available on the evening of the deadline. The team hasn’t specified an exact time.
2. Trust only the official account, @blast, and the official bridge. Around the deadline, fake “one-click recovery” and “withdrawal services” will be everywhere. Anyone asking for your seed phrase or an unfamiliar authorization is a scammer.
3. Try a small transfer first. Once you’ve confirmed it arrived, transfer the rest.
Don’t panic if you miss today’s deadline: according to the team, your funds will still be there, but withdrawing them will be more complicated. If you don’t know how to interact with a contract, it’s better to wait for the official instructions than to let a “helpful stranger” do it for you.
Do you still have assets on any small chains you haven’t exited? Tell us in the comments.
