APTOS SEEKS TO CONNECT THE CRYPTO MARKET WITH WALL STREET.

Solomon Tesfaye, head of business development at Aptos Labs, believes that companies holding cryptocurrencies in their treasuries will continue to have a place in the market, even after their shares suffered steep declines.

The argument is that many institutional investors face restrictions on buying cryptocurrencies directly and need regulated alternatives to gain exposure to the sector.

- These include shares in companies with crypto reserves, investment funds, and regulated futures.

Aptos is also moving forward with Decibel, a decentralized derivatives exchange that operates entirely on-chain.

According to data published on October 6, the platform had reached a cumulative volume of US$7.7 billion, with 31 million trades across 77 markets. Spot trading was added in August.

Meanwhile, APT has regulated futures in the United States through Bitnomial, a market that expands the options available to traditional participants.

The outlook remains challenging for digital treasury companies:

- Many trade below the value of the assets they hold. This makes their shares less attractive as a way to gain exposure to the crypto market.

I was a little surprised after reading Blockworks’ October 20 report 😮

Annual net issuance is dropping from nearly 5% straight down to 1.5%
That means supply growth is being cut by about 70%

Several major moves are happening at once:
A hard cap of 2.1 billion tokens
About 1.21 billion currently in circulation
210 million tokens from the foundation and community permanently locked
Staking rewards cut from 5.19% to 2.6%
Annual issuance dropping from 43 million tokens to around 20 million

Gas fees are also going up 10x
From $0.00004 to $0.0003
Sounds scary, but it’s still less than a penny
And all Gas fees have always been burned

Burns are also picking up
Previously, just $242 burned per day, offsetting only 0.2% of issuance
Over the past 30 days, the daily average has risen to $3,500
Enough to offset nearly 10%

But don’t rush to call it deflationary
The report lays it out clearly:
For burns to exceed issuance, transaction volume still needs to grow another 10x
Steady-state TPS needs to rise from 105 to 1,050

There’s another change coming up soon
Vesting for investors and core contributors ends this month
Annual cliff unlocks are plunging from 135 million tokens to 21 million
The selling-pressure structure is really about to change

One thing I’m concerned about:
Of roughly 9 million daily transactions in September,
about 98% were concentrated on one perpetuals platform, Decibel
The volume looks great, but that much concentration doesn’t count as a thriving ecosystem

So here’s my take:
This APT change is about the supply ledger, not a promise about the price
Reduced issuance and lower unlocks are tangible positives for the token’s structure
Whether it can become truly deflationary still depends on real transaction activity spreading out
