‏🚨 Coldcard wallets hack scandal—how did the 63M$ disappear in 25 minutes? 🚨

‏Imagine they drained more than 1000 ⁦‪$BTC‬⁩ from hundreds of wallets, and the attacker didn’t touch anything physically or compromise the blockchain at all! 😐

‏So what’s the story in detail?

‏🔸 The cause: a programming bug (Firmware Bug) released back in 2021. It turned off the hardware RNG (random number generator), and the recovery phrase (Seed Phrase) started being generated in a very weak and easy-to-guess way.

‏🔸 The theft method: the attacker discovered the vulnerability early, then guessed the “offline” private keys and wrote a script waiting for wallets to fill out their configuration.. As soon as he got the right addresses, he drained everything in one shot 🔻

‏🔸 The problem: if your Coldcard and your setup/initial phrase were created between 2021 and today, then updating by itself won’t protect you—because the old words are already exposed and stored with the attacker.
‏(Ledger and Trezor wallets are not affected by this and are safe.)

🔸 Seed phrases were generated using weak, predictable code instead of true randomness.
🔸 The hacker derived the keys offline and set automated sweeps once wallets were funded. 🔻
⚠️ CRITICAL WARNING:
If your seed phrase was generated on affected firmware, updating the device WILL NOT protect you. Your keys are already exposed.

You must generate a brand-new seed phrase on safe firmware and move your funds immediately.
