According to Bloomberg, US President Donald Trump said Saturday that an interim deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end the US-Iran conflict would be signed Sunday, but the claim was immediately contradicted by Tehran as the two sides remain divided on core terms. Trump posted that "the Hormuz Strait is OPEN TO ALL" the moment the deal is signed, and asserted Iran "no longer wants a Nuclear weapon." Pakistan, acting as mediator, said it was preparing for an electronic signing followed by up to 60 days of technical-level talks on Iran's nuclear program, according to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Key sticking points remain: Trump said no money would change hands, while Iran is demanding compensation for war damages and the return of assets frozen by the US since 1979. Trump separately said the US would remove and destroy highly enriched uranium — which he called "Nuclear Dust" — either in Iran or on US soil once other terms are met. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi signaled readiness for a deal but a state-run IRIB spokesman ruled out a Sunday signing. A European official said final terms still require approval from Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. Araghchi said Iranian sovereignty over the strait would be preserved and that Hormuz management terms would differ from the past arrangement, under which Tehran provided services free of charge. Hard-liners in Iran and hawkish Republican allies of Trump remain opposed to any agreement.
