After Hugging Face was attacked by an autonomous AI agent, the team used a locally deployed, open-source GLM 5.2 to analyze more than 17,000 incidents. The reason is very realistic: some closed-source models’ security guardrails cannot distinguish between defensive forensics and attack payloads. With a local model, sensitive logs stay within the environment and the analysis boundaries can be adjusted according to the security team’s needs. It does not mean that open-source models are inherently safer, but it shows that in real-world incidents, whether you can control how the model works is just as important as how capable the model is.
