Voting for the Solana Community Awards is open. Put simply, it’s one big mutual-promo fest.
Voting opened on October 26. There are 12 categories, and you pick one in each. Once you’ve voted, you can’t change your picks. The awards will be presented at Breakpoint in London, November 15–17. Sounds pretty official—until you open your timeline and see nominees reposting other people’s ballots, where the choice just happens to be themselves. @nikkideyy reposted @valvalentina_’s voting post, which picked nikkideyy for Creator of the Year. EveyNFT’s ballot got reposted word for word by another account, too.
MoonPay’s official account posted “our votes are in.” It got 18,000 views and 210 likes, but didn’t say who they voted for—not that the repost accounts in the replies got any exposure, with views ranging from zero to single digits. A little brand engagement, zero cost, all upside.
These awards don’t measure who’s contributed what to the ecosystem. They measure whose reply squad hits harder and who’s better at organizing a vote campaign. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the SOL you and I hold, or with real users on-chain.
I’m not saying those people don’t deserve to win—they might well do. But on-chain meme trading volume is nearly dead, and the community’s biggest event has become handing trophies to its own. That, in itself, says a lot.
