Recent updates from the @AtlantaFed show that their Wage Growth Tracker experienced an increase during August, reaching +4.1% compared to the 3.8% observed in the previous month. Furthermore, the expanding divide between individuals who stay at their current companies and those who find new employment suggests that professionals transitioning to different roles are successfully holding on to their negotiating leverage.
Even after 25 years have passed, the memory of that exact moment remains remarkably vivid. I found myself seated on the left side of an 8:47am United flight bound for LAX, pausing on the tarmac at Newark. From that vantage point, I witnessed the unimaginable as the initial aircraft struck the tower, followed shortly by the second. My mind simply could not comprehend the events unfolding right outside my window.
True panic only set in later once the reality of the situation became clear and my attempts to phone my family completely failed. For a span of several hours, a complete lapse in communication left my loved ones wondering whether I had been aboard one of those doomed flights. The feeling of utter helplessness from that period is something I will never forget.
Following these events, passengers were placed under lockdown inside the airport. While standing at a lounge window, we watched the towers fall and saw our nation shatter right before our eyes. At that time, my home was in Darien, CT, a community that suffered immense casualties that day. We lost countless neighbors and close friends, individuals who left behind families and entire futures that were tragically cut short.
We continue to carry the heavy burden of that day, enduring both the fear and the loss. However, alongside those emotions, I hold a profound gratitude that my flight remained safely on the runway rather than up in the sky.
Interruptions in the supply of lumber may soon emerge due to the newly intensified trade dispute involving the United States and Canada. To put the scale of this economic relationship into perspective, American purchases of Canadian wood surpassed $10B last year. This substantial figure amounted to 44% of all wood imported by the United States during that timeframe. @DataArbor
During August, PPI services, denoted in blue, experienced a slight rise on an m/m basis. Meanwhile, the goods sector, highlighted in orange, registered its most substantial increase in three months.
The upward trend observed in August PPI #inflation was largely fueled by rising energy prices (+4.2% m/m). A major catalyst behind this broader energy increase was the cost of diesel, which experienced a notable +24% m/m jump.
Recent data shared by @Redfin highlights a fascinating trend in the real estate market for August. The amount of individuals listing their homes surpassed active purchasers by a remarkable 58%. This marks the largest disparity ever recorded, showing a noticeable increase from the 52% margin seen the previous month.
As mortgage rates approach the 7% mark, it comes as no real surprise to see a shift in housing availability. During August, the inventory of existing homes reached a 4.9-month supply, representing the highest level we have observed in more than a decade.
