Vitalik Buterin: SHIB Donation Exceeded Expectations
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has revealed that the massive SHIB donation he received in 2021 was far beyond what he expected.
At the time, Shiba Inu's community sent him a significant portion of the token's supply. Buterin subsequently donated a large amount of SHIB to India's COVID-19 relief efforts, turning an unexpected crypto gift into a major charitable contribution.
The event highlighted how quickly cryptocurrency donations can reach extraordinary values, while also raising questions about market volatility, liquidity, and the responsibility that comes with receiving large token allocations.
Beyond the headlines, the incident remains an important example of how crypto communities can use digital assets for charitable causes.
What do you think? Can meme coins become a meaningful force for global philanthropy?
