Citi slashed its 12-month Bitcoin target to $82,000 from $112,000 — and now expects zero net ETF inflows over the coming year. $BTC
That is Citi’s second trim in 2026, after an earlier cut had already pulled the target down from $143,000. The bank had been modeling $10 billion of net inflows; it now pencils in zero.
The flow data explains the shift. BTC ETFs have shed roughly $3.3 billion in 2026, and June alone saw $4 billion leave — the worst month on record for the products. Citi also pointed to softer investor demand and a Washington that has yet to move on digital asset legislation.
Its analysts raised another worry: digital asset treasury companies that loaded up on bitcoin might start selling, while money rotates toward anything with an AI label. Citi’s bear case — a recession plus steady ETF withdrawals — puts BTC at $53,000 over the next 12 months. That is a scenario, not a confirmed path.
Bitcoin trades at $60,041, up $1,698 (2.91%) on the day, per the live chart dated July 1, 2026. It swung between $57,717.55 and $60,473.99 in the past 24 hours, with volume of 446,377 BTC, or $26.85 billion, and a $1.20 trillion market cap.
What it means for you: if ETF outflows keep running and legislation stays stalled, the $82,000 target could face further cuts; if flows stabilize, the $53,000 bear case may look too dark. Watch the funds, not just the headline.
The real takeaway is the swing from $10 billion of expected ETF inflows to zero — that is the number that changed Citi’s math.
