According to CoinDesk, the record-breaking $6.3 billion Binance hack was launched through a phishing scam disguised as a fake job interview. A Binance engineer unwittingly installed malware on a company computer after downloading what appeared to be a coding test from fake recruiters.

Once inside the network, the hackers leveraged an internal AI tool to target two wallet engineers, allowing them to extract credentials and execute a malicious script on October 29. They further exploited Ethereum’s EIP-7702 standard to hijack a hot wallet.

Although containment took roughly four hours, Binance has already frozen $2.85 billion of the stolen funds and covered 98% of the compromised tokens using corporate reserves, ensuring users suffer no financial loss. The FBI has officially linked the breach to North Korean state-sponsored hackers.$ETH
