ZEC lost the $1,200 level as longs were liquidated, and the last NU7 milestone also triggered a drop. Here's what's confirmed, where analysts disagree, and the one step holders shouldn't skip.

📉 $ZEC led the majors this morning and gave it all back by the evening. With Zcash's biggest upgrade in years about two days away, the drop has traders asking one question.

$ZEC fell about 11% in 24 hours to roughly $1,140, breaking the $1,200 support and a short-term trendline. About $13.7 million in leveraged positions were liquidated, almost all of them longs. One report cites a selloff on Kraken, but I couldn't confirm it. The market was also under general pressure, with Bitcoin dipping under $77,000.

🔍 The pattern traders are watching.

When the NU7 test net went live on October 4, $ZEC fell 17.9% in four days, from about $1,352 to $1,110. Analyst Crypto Patel argues the rally into the upgrade was a completed "buy the rumor" trade and warns of a deeper correction. Another analyst, Ardi, watches $1,370 as the breakout level, and one forecast stays bullish above $1,205. That split is the real story.

🛠️ What NU7 does and doesn't change.

Activation is set at block 3,543,405, expected on the evening of November 5 US time. Block times drop from 75 to 25 seconds, so confirmations arrive about three times faster, and daily issuance stays the same. It doesn't change the 21 million supply cap.

🏛️ A second story is running alongside it.

Co-founder Sean Bowe has proposed ending the 8% share of block rewards that funds Zcash Community Grants. It's a separate funding debate: it isn't part of NU7 and has no activation date. It adds noise and uncertainty, though.

✅ What this means for you

If you trade $ZEC, 11% drop two days before an upgrade is a positioning signal, not a verdict. The $1,160 and $1,100 supports matter, and a sell-the-news pattern is a pattern, not a rule. Size small and decide your exit before November 5.

If you're on the sidelines, you don't need to catch the upgrade. Waiting until it's live costs you little.

If you hold $ZEC, don't skip the practical step: coins still sitting in the old Sprout pool become unspendable after NU7. One tracker shows roughly 22,000 $ZEC still there, so check your wallet and move them first.

🟢 Bullish scenario
$ZEC reclaims $1,200 and holds, NU7 activates smoothly, and traders who sold the dip get squeezed back toward $1,370.

🔴 Risk scenario
$ZEC loses $1,100, the test net pattern repeats after activation, and the grant dispute adds to the pressure.

👀 Three things to watch

1️⃣ $1,160 and $1,100: do they hold as support?
2️⃣ The activation block: does NU7 go live without problems?
3️⃣ The week after: does $ZEC hold its gains, or sell the news?

💡 The key takeaway

$ZEC dropped 11% into the upgrade, and nobody agrees on why. The test net precedent says caution, and the balance of analysts says it's still open.

The real question isn't whether NU7 works. It's whether the market has already paid for it.

That is the part worth watching.
