Stablecoins Shrank $4.2B in a Week: Fear Is Easing, but New Money Hasn't Arrived

Prices have stopped falling, but money is still leaving the room.

According to DefiLlama, total stablecoin market cap was about $298.34B on 11/1, down roughly $4.26B in a week (about $302.6B on 10/25), and it has slipped for 4 straight days since 10/29. USDT sits near $179.30B, down about $3.12B on the week and $4.55B on the month. USDC is around $71.64B, also down about $0.11B this week. Both majors shrinking means money is walking out, not switching sides.

Sentiment is a little warmer. The Fear & Greed Index moved from 30 (11/1) to 34 (11/2), still in fear. Meanwhile the Binance BTCUSDT retail long/short ratio is about 2.25, with roughly 69% long. The dip buyers are mostly retail.

My read: this bounce is held up by retail longs while fresh buying power keeps draining. Without new money stepping in, it isn't a clean bottom, and rebounds can easily fade.

What I'm watching today (Taipei time):
· Binance's preliminary Proof of Reserves (PoR) snapshot, expected 11/2
· 22:30 US market open, 23:00 ISM Manufacturing PMI
· Tomorrow 11/3: US midterm elections

Don't guess the bottom; watch for new money. One possible rule: only reassess risk-asset weight after total stablecoin supply rises 3 days in a row; until then, keep risk low.
