US jobless claims remain low

📊 Initial jobless claims fell by 1,000 to 194,000 in the week ending October 24, below the forecast of 199,000.

📉 The four-week average declined to 196,750. Continuing claims also fell by 21,000 to 1.701 million, suggesting layoffs remain limited.

🏢 However, low layoffs do not necessarily mean stronger hiring. Companies may retain existing staff while remaining cautious about expanding their workforce.

🏦 For the Fed, the figures reduce pressure to cut rates soon to support employment. Any case for a rate increase still depends on inflation and other economic data.

💵 If markets scale back easing expectations, the dollar and Treasury yields could gain support, weighing on gold. Still, the modest decline in claims does not provide a decisive policy signal.
