Ripple Just Became a Federally Regulated Bank — And XRP Barely Moved

Ripple has won final approval from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency to launch Ripple National Trust Bank, CEO Brad Garlinghouse announced Monday. Ripple applied in July 2025 and got conditional approval in December 2025 — now the charter is final.
The new bank will manage the segregated reserves backing Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin, act as collateral trustee for RLUSD holders, and offer fiduciary digital asset custody to institutions. RLUSD itself will still be issued by Ripple's New York-regulated trust company — the charter adds federal OCC supervision on top.
RLUSD has grown to about $2.5 billion since its December 2024 launch. Ripple now joins Circle, BitGo and Fidelity Digital Assets with final OCC approval.
Why it matters: a crypto company running a federally supervised bank is a milestone for the whole industry's push into traditional finance.
The honest caveat: the charter covers RLUSD reserves and custody — XRP has no designated function in it, and XRP rose only 1.16% on the news. Not financial advice — DYOR.
Is this Ripple's biggest win ever, or just a headline for RLUSD?
