📈Holder counts, swap volume, shielded supply and buybacks all point to real activity. Here is what each number means and where the risks sit.

Price charts tell you what people feel. On-chain numbers tell you what people do. When I scan beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum, I skip the loudest coins and look for the ones where the activity is measurable. Four stood out this month. 🔍

📊 Solana (SOL): The Holder Count Jumped

Solana wants to be the home of tokenized Treasury bills and stocks. According to RWA.xyz, it held about $4.4B in tradeable tokenized assets as of October 14.

The figure I'd look at is holders. It rose 47% in 30 days to roughly 898,000. A jump that fast usually means new people are arriving, not just the same wallets moving funds around.

🔗 NEAR: Swaps That Pay Back into the Token

NEAR's Intents service lets users, including AI agents, request a cross-chain swap while competing market makers race to fill it at the best price.

DeFiLlama data shows $4.8B of swaps in the 30 days to October 14, which produced about $8.2M in fees. That revenue is used to buy NEAR on the open market. It is small next to the swap volume, but it is a real loop between usage and demand for the token.

🛡️ Zcash (ZEC): Privacy That People Actually Use

Zcash combines Bitcoin's 21M supply cap with optional privacy that hides senders, receivers and amounts. About 29% of its supply sat in shielded pools as of October 14.

To me, that is the key number, because it shows the feature is used and not only talked about. The planned NU7 upgrade, meant to cut block times from 75 seconds to 25, is the next thing to follow.

🔄 Hyperliquid (HYPE): Buybacks That Spread

Hyperliquid is a decentralized exchange for perpetual futures. Around 99% of its fees go toward buying back its token, about $224M in the third quarter of 2026 alone.

The model worked well enough that other platforms copied it. Hyperliquid has also added prediction markets, and options trading may come next, which could keep its fees growing.

⚠️ Where the Risks Sit

Growing numbers don't guarantee a rising price. Altcoins can fall much harder than Bitcoin when the market turns, and a lead in one niche can vanish if a competitor catches up.

  • Hyperliquid runs on leveraged derivatives, which adds its own risk.

  • NEAR's fee revenue is small compared with its swap volume.

  • Zcash's privacy features can attract regulatory pressure.

My own rule for smaller coins is to keep each position small enough that a bad month doesn't hurt.

👀 Three Things to Watch Next

  1. Does Solana's tokenized-asset holder count keep growing?

  2. Do NEAR's Intents fees keep pace with swap volume?

  3. Does Hyperliquid keep adding products that grow its fees?

💡 The Takeaway

Each of these four coins shows measurable activity in its own niche, from tokenized assets to swaps, privacy and buybacks.

Activity is a good sign, but it is not a promise of returns, and these coins are far riskier than Bitcoin.

I would pay particular attention to whether these numbers keep rising next month, because a trend matters more than any single price move.

If you had to watch only one of these four this week, which would you choose? And what matters more to you: real network usage or token buybacks?

That is the part worth watching.
