🚨JUST IN: A UAE-led global operation just identified more than $39 BILLION in fraud-linked funds and crypto assets, leading to 960+ arrests.
"Operation Confrontation Ghost" was led by the UAE Ministry of Interior and ran from July to September, bringing together law enforcement from 30 countries, Interpol, the Global Anti-Fraud Alliance and 13 private-sector firms. Results were announced at a UN crime conference in Vienna.
The numbers are enormous. Authorities say the operation thwarted more than 123 million fraud attempts, identified over 3,500 suspects and 15,500 victims, and exchanged more than 9,000 pieces of intelligence. They blocked 4,126 bank accounts, shut down over 570 social media accounts tied to fraud and raided 29 fraud centres.
The targets were AI-powered scams, financial fraud through digital platforms and online extortion, the kind of cross-border crime that moves fast through crypto rails and is hard for any single country to chase.
It lands alongside a separate UAE crackdown this month. Sharjah Police dismantled four networks tied to an alleged Dh8.8 billion crypto-linked money laundering operation, with more than Dh200 million seized.
The UAE has often been criticized as a haven for illicit finance, so it is positioning itself as a leader in the fight against fraud. Whether these results hold up to scrutiny is the next question, but the scale of the coordination is hard to ignore.
