Binance.US reportedly wants to enter prediction markets.

But when does predicting an outcome become gambling rather than investing?

The Financial Times reports today that Binance.US has sought regulatory approval to offer prediction markets in the United States.

Approval has NOT been confirmed.

Prediction markets let participants take financial positions on outcomes such as elections, sporting events or economic decisions.

Here's what Muslim investors should examine:

• Are you acquiring a productive asset or wagering on an uncertain event?
• Where does the payout come from?
• Does the contract create genuine economic ownership or simply a win-or-lose payoff?
• Does regulatory approval address the same questions as Shariah compliance? No — they are separate assessments.

Not every forecasting or hedging arrangement has the same structure, and no blanket ruling follows from this announcement.

The important question isn't whether you can predict correctly. It's whether the financial arrangement itself is appropriate.

Where should the line be drawn between forecasting, hedging and gambling?
