🚨 Pump.fun Is No Longer Just About Memecoins — It’s Coming for the Derivatives Market
Pump.fun just expanded into perpetual futures, bringing leveraged crypto trading directly into its app through an integration with Hyperliquid.
That’s a serious change in strategy. 👀
The Solana-based platform became famous for making memecoin launches ridiculously easy. Now it wants users to do more than launch tokens and chase the next viral coin.
They can also trade perpetual contracts tied to major assets like Bitcoin and Ethereum, without leaving the Pump.fun experience. The integration uses Hyperliquid’s infrastructure to handle order matching, margin and liquidations.
And leverage is where things get interesting — and risky.
Reported market settings allow leverage of up to 40x on Bitcoin and 25x on Ethereum. At those levels, even a relatively small move against a position can wipe out a trader’s collateral.
Pump.fun can also collect a builder fee of up to 0.10% per order, with additional costs potentially coming from trading and bridging infrastructure. The feature excludes users in the United States and Ontario, among other restricted users.
The bigger picture is the business model.
Memecoin launches can generate waves of activity, but derivatives offer another potential source of trading revenue. Pump.fun is moving toward a broader trading platform that competes for users’ attention, liquidity and fees.
The challenge is whether its audience wants sophisticated trading tools — and whether the platform can attract lasting activity beyond speculative hype.
One thing is clear: the line between meme launchpads and full-scale crypto trading platforms is getting thinner.
Is Pump.fun evolving into a serious trading competitor, or stretching too far beyond its core audience? 🔥
