European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde said the euro-area economy is resilient and a digital euro is imminent. Lagarde said the digital euro would complement cash for day-to-day payments and stimulate innovation and competition in retail payments. Lagarde said September's 3.8% euro-area inflation rate largely reflected high energy costs, which the ECB expects to ease next year. Lagarde said a measured policy response remains appropriate despite an expected energy shock keeping inflation above the ECB's target through the first half of 2027.
