Sberbank, the largest lender in Russia, has received authorization from the central bank to facilitate cryptocurrency trading. The bank is preparing to launch services that include Bitcoin, Ether, and Tether USDt on its existing digital platforms, including SberBank Online and SberInvestments.

The planned launch is targeted for December 1, 2026, though the bank noted that the final timeline depends on further regulations from the central bank. Sberbank has already begun testing functions such as buying, selling, depositing, and withdrawing crypto through its mobile application.

This move follows new regulatory rules that went into effect on September 1, which brought exchange operators and digital custodians under the oversight of the Bank of Russia. While the bank can now provide trading services, the use of cryptocurrencies for paying for goods and services remains prohibited in the country.
