SpaceX Expands Mobile Ambitions as Shares of Major US Carriers Slide

📡 SpaceX has reached an agreement to acquire Grain Management's entire 800 MHz spectrum portfolio, in a deal reportedly worth around $8 billion in cash, according to The Wall Street Journal. The companies have not disclosed the official transaction value.

🛰️ The acquisition would strengthen Starlink Mobile's coverage, particularly in remote areas and inside buildings. SpaceX aims to combine satellite connectivity with terrestrial infrastructure to expand its mobile services across the US.

📉 Shares of AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile fell roughly 6% in after-hours trading, reflecting investor concerns over potential competitive pressure.

⚖️ However, the deal still requires FCC approval. Spectrum ownership alone does not enable an immediate nationwide mobile rollout, while established carriers retain significant advantages in infrastructure and customer bases.
