💥 NEAR INTENTS RECOVERS $3.8M AFTER GIVING HACKER A 48-HOUR ULTIMATUM
NEAR Intents has recovered the full $3.8 million stolen in an exploit, just one day after publicly telling the attacker, “We have identified you, sir.”
The cross-chain swap service had given the exploiter 48 hours to return the funds under a responsible-disclosure approach. The attacker ultimately sent the entire amount back, and NEAR Intents General Manager Alex Shevchenko said the investigation was being closed.
The exploit stemmed from a bug involving NEAR Intents’ Omni deposit and withdrawal infrastructure and its main smart contract. The team had already pledged to fully compensate affected users and reported the incident to law enforcement.
An onchain message attributed to the exploiter acknowledged the wrongdoing and urged others to use bug bounties instead.
