Why can a $ETH transfer cost more at one moment than another? Ethereum gas pays for network computation. The fee depends on gas used and the price per unit: the base fee changes with network demand, while a priority fee can encourage faster inclusion. A simple transfer typically uses less gas than a complex smart-contract interaction, so comparing only the ETH amount you send misses part of the cost. Check the estimated network fee and the receiving network before confirming; a low advertised fee on another network is not the same as sending on Ethereum mainnet.
