$NEAR has already deployed NIST-approved quantum-safe signing on mainnet, allowing users to rotate keys in a single transaction without creating a new account or moving funds.
But the bigger challenge is still ahead: validator consensus.
The team is targeting quantum-safe consensus by late 2027, although that timeline is still directional, not a fixed deadline.
And there’s another tough problem — quantum-safe MPC/threshold signing for Chain Signatures across 30+ chains. No final solution has been selected yet.
Ledger and other wallet providers are also preparing for the larger key requirements.
