Alibaba expands its AI strategy from chips to cloud
🤖 Alibaba officially unveiled its Zhenwu V900 AI chip at Apsara Conference 2026, claiming performance up to 3 times higher than the previous M890 generation. Mass production is expected to begin in Q1 2027.
🧠 Alongside the hardware push, the company is developing a new generation of Qwen models with 5–10 trillion parameters, significantly larger than its current models and aimed at handling longer, more complex tasks.
☁️ Alibaba Cloud is also targeting more than 20 GW of global data center capacity by 2032, highlighting a broader AI strategy spanning chips, models, and infrastructure.
📈 Alibaba shares in Hong Kong rose around 5% following the announcement. However, the V900 has yet to enter mass production, while its performance claims have not been independently benchmarked.
