But the financial product built around gold can be very different.

and
Gold Options
They don't work the same way.
A perpetual contract tracks the price of gold without giving you ownership of physical gold.
Options introduce a different structure involving a strike price, expiration and premium.
So when someone says:
“I’m trading gold.”
The next question should be:
“Through which instrument?”
