Everyone talks about Bitcoin’s 21 million BTC supply, but have you ever wondered who actually controls the biggest chunks?

The biggest estimated holder is still Satoshi Nakamoto, with researchers estimating around 1.1 million BTC mined during Bitcoin’s earliest days. These coins have remained untouched for years.

Then we have the institutions.

Spot Bitcoin ETFs have become major holders, with BlackRock’s IBIT among the largest. Public companies have also entered the race, led by Strategy, which has accumulated hundreds of thousands of BTC.

Governments hold substantial amounts too, mostly from law-enforcement seizures.

And then there are exchanges like Binance and Coinbase. Their massive Bitcoin wallets can look like whale wallets, but much of that BTC belongs to their customers.

That’s the part many people miss:

A Bitcoin address shows where the coins are, not necessarily who economically owns them.

Bitcoin ownership is becoming more complex — individuals, whales, ETFs, corporations, governments and millions of users all share the same 21 million BTC ecosystem.

The real question isn't just who owns the most Bitcoin?

It’s:

How much BTC is actually available for sale?
