$BTC -backed ≠ native BTC.
This is an important distinction beginners often miss.
Wrapped BTC can bring Bitcoin exposure to programmable chains and DeFi, but you’re not simply holding native Bitcoin anymore.
Before using any BTC-backed token, check 3 things:
• Backing — What actually supports the token?
• Redemption — Can it be redeemed for BTC, and how?
• Custody — Who holds the underlying Bitcoin?
The ticker may look familiar.
The underlying structure may be very different.
My takeaway: Don’t just ask, “Is it backed by BTC?”
Ask, “What exactly do I own?”
What do you check first when evaluating a wrapped asset?
