Ryan Kirkley, CEO of the Global Settlement Network, warned at the 2026 Wyoming Blockchain Symposium that AI agents could dramatically increase the scale and sophistication of cyberattacks targeting the crypto space. He emphasized that these AI-powered agents could breach Wi-Fi networks, passwords, and wallets at an unprecedented level, posing a new threat to digital security.
Kirkley pointed out that attacks previously targeting individual holders with assets around $20,000 were considered costly and less feasible at scale. However, with the advent of advanced AI agents, a single malicious AI could now potentially attack every target simultaneously, drastically lowering the cost and increasing the scope of cyber threats.
This warning echoes growing concerns within the industry about the potential misuse of AI in cybercrime. As AI technology continues to evolve rapidly, security experts are increasingly worried that malicious actors could leverage these tools to orchestrate large-scale, automated attacks that outpace traditional cybersecurity defenses.
The Vice President of the Web3 Foundation also highlighted that the development of such autonomous attack agents could force the industry to rethink security protocols and defenses. The challenge will be to develop more resilient systems capable of detecting and countering these sophisticated AI-driven threats before they cause widespread damage. #CyberSecurity #AIThreats #CryptoSecurity
