I spent 2 hours on a 200 USDT trade because the buyer kept "accidentally" sending wrong amounts
This one tested my patience like nothing else.
I listed 200 USDT for sale. Buyer created the order. Total: 5.04 million VND.
First transfer: 504,000 VND. Missing a zero. Buyer said "Sorry, typo, I'll send the rest."
Second transfer: 4,500,000 VND. Total received: 5,004,000 VND. Still short by 36,000 VND. Buyer said "Oh the bank deducted a fee, just release please."
I said no. 5,004,000 is not 5,040,000.
Third message from buyer: "Come on, it's only 36k difference. Don't be difficult."
I held firm. I typed: "The order amount is 5,040,000. I will release when I receive exactly 5,040,000."
The buyer went silent for 40 minutes. Then sent a third transfer of 36,000 VND. Then immediately messaged: "Done. Release now."
I checked. Total received: 5,040,000. Correct. I released.
The entire process took 2 hours for a 200 USDT trade.
Was the buyer actually trying to scam me? Maybe, maybe not. But the pattern of multiple small transfers with "mistakes" is a known tactic to confuse sellers into releasing before the full amount arrives.
Do NOT release until the EXACT amount is received
"It's just a small difference" is never a reason to release early
Stay calm, state the required amount clearly, and wait
If it takes too long, Appeal rather than compromise
36,000 VND is nothing. But if I'd released after the second transfer, I'd have given away 200 USDT for 5,004,000 instead of 5,040,000.
And the buyer would know that "accidental" underpayment works.
Anyone else dealt with the "multiple small transfers" tactic?
