the more i think about deterministic settlement the more i keep landing on something that sounds like a compliment but is actually a complicated question
instant settlement gets framed as pure upside in crypto. Dusk removes the ambiguity TradFi lives with, no T+1 window where a trade is agreed but not yet final
so the question isn't whether removing that window is good
it clearly is, ambiguity is where settlement risk lives
the question is whether removing the window removes the risk, or moves it earlier where it's harder to catch
TradFi's windows exist because reconciliation takes time, counterparties confirm a trade happened the same way before it's final. that gap is where failures get caught, a mismatch surfaces during the window instead of after settlement is irreversible. deterministic settlement collapses that gap, the trade is final the moment it happens, removing uncertainty for counterparties waiting on confirmation
that's a genuine improvement
but reconciliation doesn't disappear because settlement is faster, it happens before execution instead of after. a check that would've caught a mismatch during T+1 now has to be airtight at execution, no window left. deterministic settlement doesn't eliminate reconciliation, it moves it into one narrower moment with zero room for correction
that's the part speed alone doesn't tell you
