Last month I was selling 300 USDT on P2P at around 9 PM. It was raining hard outside, and I was sitting in a coffee shop waiting for the buyer to transfer. Two minutes later, the buyer sent a screenshot of a Techcombank receipt in the Binance chat: 7,560,000 VND, with a message saying "I've transferred, please confirm."
I did not press confirm. I opened my Techcombank app, logged in, and checked my transaction history. Nothing. I waited five more minutes and refreshed. Still nothing.
I replied in the Binance chat: "I haven't received it yet. Please double check." The buyer went silent for ten minutes, then cancelled the order.
Binance P2P's Escrow system holds the coin until the seller confirms they've received payment. If I had confirmed based on that fake receipt, my 300 USDT would have been released instantly and permanently. But because the coin was still in Escrow, I lost nothing.
The rule I follow after that night: never trust a screenshot of a transfer receipt. Only trust the actual balance in your own banking app. If the money hasn't arrived, wait. Escrow doesn't have a countdown forcing you to press confirm quickly.
A receipt screenshot can be faked. Your actual bank balance cannot.
