Since Trump took office as the first pro-crypto US president, the performance gap between crypto and traditional assets has been brutal.

$BTC down 41%, $ETH down 45%, most altcoins cratered 80%+. Meanwhile traditional markets ripped — S&P up 30%, Nasdaq up 42%, Russell up 35%. Even commodities crushed it: gold up 65%, silver up 123%.

The irony is sharp. You'd expect a "pro-crypto president" to lift the sector, but crypto got hammered while everything else rallied. A few possible reads:

1. Regulatory clarity didn't materialize as fast as hoped, or the actual policies fell short of market expectations.

2. Macro liquidity flows favored traditional risk assets and hard commodities over speculative crypto — possibly due to Fed policy, geopolitical hedging, or institutional rotation.

3. Crypto was already overextended before Trump's term, and this was just a natural correction amplified by hype fatigue.

4. The "pro-crypto" label was priced in early, then reality disappointed.

What's clear: political narratives don't override market structure. Liquidity, positioning, and cycle timing matter more than who's in office. Crypto needed capital inflows and risk appetite — it got neither, while gold and equities absorbed the liquidity.

The lesson: don't bet on narratives alone. Watch where the money actually moves.
