Yesterday I almost ignored the settlement side of @Dusk because I was more focused on the privacy angle. Then I went back through the design and one thing stuck with me: Succinct Attestation.
What I like is that validators aren’t just extending the chain and leaving applications to guess when a transaction is “probably” final. The attestations are designed to give deterministic finality.
That matters to me more when I think about actual financial settlement. If I’m testing a position and moving an asset, I don’t want the uncomfortable question of whether the state might still change later. A clear settlement point reduces that operational uncertainty.
But there’s a trade-off in my mind. The stronger the settlement guarantee, the more I care about the consensus assumptions behind it.
So my question after looking deeper at DUSK is simple: does deterministic finality genuinely remove financial friction, or does it just make the underlying consensus assumptions more important?
