Can Privacy and Verification Exist on the Same Blockchain?

I used to think blockchain privacy created a simple trade-off: either information stays visible for verification, or it becomes private and harder for others to examine. But the more I looked into financial use cases, the less useful that either-or choice seemed.

That is where @Dusk_Foundation gave me something different to think about.

Dusk uses zero-knowledge proofs to support confidential transactions, and one idea that caught my attention is selective disclosure. Instead of exposing unnecessary information publicly, specific information can be revealed to authorized parties when evidence is actually required.

This creates an interesting middle ground. Confidentiality can protect information that does not need universal visibility, while verification can still happen where a financial workflow requires it.

For me, that is a more useful way to think about blockchain privacy. The goal does not have to be maximum secrecy or maximum transparency.

Maybe the more important question is whether onchain finance can keep information private where needed, transparent where useful, and still provide the right evidence to the right parties when necessary.
