Blockchain speed vs VISA. The gap looks huge on paper. VISA processes around 24,000 transactions per second. Bitcoin settles about 7. Ethereum does roughly 15 to 30. But compare like for like.

VISA transactions are authorizations. Final settlement happens days later. Blockchain transactions are final in minutes or seconds. A VISA charge can be reversed. A blockchain transfer cannot.

Also consider global availability. VISA works where banks exist. Blockchain works anywhere with internet. No cut-off times. No intermediaries.

Throughput is not the whole story. Latency matters. A VISA tap feels instant. The backend batch settles later. A blockchain transfer may take seconds to propagate. Then it is permanently recorded.

Scaling solutions change the math. Layer 2 networks like Lightning or Arbitrum handle thousands per second. That is closer to VISA.

Speed is useful. Finality is underrated. For remittances, settlement risk, or cross-border payments, blockchain offers something VISA does not. VISA is a payment rail. Blockchain is a settlement layer. Different tools. Different trade-offs.
