A smart contract exploit resulted in the theft of 41 million EMT tokens from two EarthMeta ($EMT) project-controlled wallets, according to the project. The exploit affected a developer testing wallet and a staking rewards wallet, with 6 million EMT and 35 million EMT stolen, respectively. User wallets, NFT ownership, accounts, personal information, and platform infrastructure were not affected.

The attacker sold part of the stolen EMT for about 3,500 USDT before EarthMeta removed liquidity from the existing EMT pool to prevent additional sales.

EarthMeta also announced that it will migrate its ecosystem from Polygon to Ethereum. The migration will include the EMT token, City NFTs, Land NFTs, President NFTs, staking, and future platform features. The project said Ethereum provides deeper liquidity, stronger infrastructure, broader exchange and wallet support, higher trading volume, and greater long-term stability.

The team published email exchanges between CEO Taha Bouarfa and the attacker. According to the published messages, Bouarfa offered 15,000 USDT for the return of 35 million EMT. The attacker rejected the proposal, demanded $120,000, claimed to control about 40 million EMT, and said the settlement demand would increase by $5,000 each day.

EarthMeta completed a blockchain snapshot at Polygon block 91,386,400 on August 3, 2026, at 19:17:06 UTC. Only balances recorded at that block will be recognized during the migration. EMT v2 is scheduled to launch on Ethereum on August 10 at 18:00 UTC, with trading set to resume at an initial price of $0.002 per EMT.
