Walrus ($WAL ) is an interesting project in the decentralized storage space but from a fundamental and tokenomics perspective, I think it’s still early to judge it as a strong long-term investment.

Let’s look at the numbers.
The maximum supply is 5 billion WAL while the circulating supply is only around 1.57 billion WAL. That means a large portion of tokens are still locked and will be unlocked over time. With a market cap around $500M, the fully diluted valuation (FDV) is much higher. This creates potential future sell pressure as more tokens enter circulation.

From a fundamentals point of view, Walrus is trying to solve a real problem, decentralized storage and data availability. Demand for storage, data and Web3 infrastructure is clearly growing and in the long run, this sector can become very big. So the narrative is strong.
However, strong narrative doesn’t always mean strong price performance in the short to mid term. Token unlocks, emissions and early investor distributions can impact price heavily.
