CoinEx Faces $55M Hack, Lazarus Group Suspected
According to ZachXBT, the notorious North Korean hacker group Lazarus might be behind the recent hack at CoinEX. The hack might also be connected to a recent security breach at the betting platform Stake.com.
ZachXBT pinpointed an Ethereum wallet address believed to belong to the culprits of both security breaches. This discovery suggests a common perpetrator for the two hacks. The mentioned wallet had transactions with Stake.com and engaged with another wallet into which the funds stolen from CoinEx were deposited.
While initial assessments gauged the CoinEx hack's value at about $28M, further analysis has increased the estimated loss to $55M. The breakdown reveals stolen assets comprising $6M in $BTC, $18.5M in $ETH, and $6M in $XRP.
Following the incident, CoinEx has paused deposits and withdrawals to conduct a thorough investigation. Moreover, the platform has assured that those impacted by this breach will be fully compensated…
