I honestly don’t know what people expected from $LAPTOP.
The token launched with one of the strongest attention hooks imaginable: the infamous Hunter Biden laptop story, political controversy, and a direct reference to traders who lost money on $TRUMP.
The result was explosive—but only for a few minutes.
$LAPTOP reportedly traded around $190 before collapsing below $4, wiping out roughly 98% of its value in a matter of minutes.
That wasn’t simply extreme volatility. It was a clear lesson in liquidity and market structure.
According to reported on-chain data, a wallet linked to the token received around 100 million $LAPTOP tokens before launch and later moved a significant portion into the market. With only around $2.5 million in pooled liquidity, even relatively modest selling pressure could have a massive impact on the price.
And this is where I think many traders are missing the bigger picture.
A famous name can generate attention.
A political narrative can create hype.
An airdrop can attract buyers.
But none of these things automatically create sustainable demand.
What makes $LAPTOP even more interesting is the narrative behind it. The token was built around the losses and controversy surrounding another political memecoin, $TRUMP.
In other words, the market is now creating new tokens around the people who lost money on previous tokens.
That says a lot about how far the memecoin market has evolved.
The biggest takeaway for me isn’t simply that $LAPTOP crashed.
It’s that traders continue to confuse attention with value.
Memecoins can move incredibly fast when hype and liquidity come together. But when liquidity is thin and selling pressure arrives, the chart doesn’t care how famous the story, person, or narrative behind the token is.
Hype can create a launch. Liquidity determines how that launch survives.
