Base's planned Denim upgrade would shorten voting windows in governance contracts that measure time in blocks, unless those settings change.

Denim moves from one block every two seconds to one every 200 milliseconds. Keep a voting period at 1,800 blocks, for example, and it lasts six minutes instead of an hour. This is an illustration of the timing change, not the voting period of a named project.

Base's documentation specifically flags block-based governance delays and voting periods. Contracts that measure elapsed time in seconds are unaffected by this clock change. For token holders, the distinction determines how long they have to participate: a familiar number of blocks would leave much less time to vote.

The upgrade went live on Base Sepolia, the test network, on October 21. Mainnet is targeting November 2026, without a fixed activation timestamp. Before that activation, the useful question for a governance project is whether its voting window uses blocks or seconds and whether it has reviewed the change.
