BHP copper output falls 19% while full-year guidance remains unchanged

⛏️ BHP’s October 20 report showed copper production of 400,700 tonnes in Q1 FY2027, down 19% year on year and roughly 5.4% below market expectations.

🌧️ Output was affected by planned lower ore grades, maintenance and operational disruptions in Chile. A conveyor failure at Carrapateena in Australia also contributed to the decline.

📊 BHP maintained full-year copper production guidance at 1.65–1.80 million tonnes. Average realised prices rose 53% to USD 7.01/lb, helping cushion the impact of lower volumes.

⚖️ The quarterly results highlight operational risks, while the full-year outlook remains unchanged. Production recovery over the coming quarters will help determine how persistent these disruptions prove to be.
