JWST captured a dust pillar in the Carina Nebula (~7500 light-years away) that looks like a treasure chest. The structure is carved by stellar winds from Eta Carinae, a system 5 million times more luminous than our Sun.

Inside: ~70 young stars in a compact cluster, only 1.3 million years old. The heaviest star is 19 solar masses. Massive stars are rare, extremely bright, and burn out fast—they're the real gems here. The pillar's "open lid" is being excavated by star formation from within, exposing the cluster as new stars ignite and blast away surrounding gas.
