Citadel: Selective Disclosure for Digital Identity

Digital identity often creates a difficult choice reveal everything to prove who you are or reveal too little to satisfy the application.

Dusk approaches this problem with Citadel described in its documentation as the network’s identity and access layer for selective disclosure.

The distinction is important. Selective disclosure is not simply about keeping identity information private. It is about designing access around the information that actually needs to be disclosed for a particular interaction.

This fits naturally into Dusk’s broader architecture. The network already distinguishes between public and shielded accounts allowing transactions to operate with different visibility levels. Citadel extends that thinking toward identity and access rather than transaction data alone.

Dusk’s documentation also lists Citadel Self Sovereign Identities on Dusk Network as a dedicated research paper alongside technical work related to zero knowledge systems and attribute blinding authentication.

What interests me here is the architectural principle identity does not necessarily need to become a permanent public record just because a user needs to prove something.
