An Appeal is not just a customer-support ticket. It changes what can happen to the crypto.
That detail made me understand Binance P2P disputes differently.
Imagine the buyer says, “I paid.”
The seller says, “Nothing reached my bank.”
At that moment, one of the worst things the system could do would be to force either side to win immediately.
The bank transfer happened outside Binance, so the platform needs evidence before deciding what the fiat side of the trade actually looks like. Binance’s P2P glossary says that when an Appeal is submitted, the assets from the appealed order are locked during the investigation.
That lock creates something valuable: time.
The buyer can provide payment records. The seller can show bank transaction history. The in-order chat preserves what each side said. Order ID, amount, payer details, timestamps and video proof can all be compared against the same trade.
This is why I think Appeal is better understood as a temporary “freeze the outcome” mechanism.
Escrow protects the crypto before settlement. Appeal keeps that protection in place when the two sides disagree about whether settlement actually happened.
And that changes how I behave when something looks wrong. I do not cancel just because someone asks me to. I do not move the conversation to Telegram. I do not release because a screenshot looks convincing. I keep the dispute attached to the order and let the evidence become stronger than either person’s claim.
Binance even provides specific guidance for video proof: show the banking app, transaction history, relevant transfer details and the order context clearly enough for Support to connect the payment to the dispute.
The part I had underestimated is that Appeal does not magically know who is right.
Its first job is more basic: stop the crypto from moving while the facts are being reconstructed.
In a P2P dispute, that pause may be one of the most important protections in the entire flow.
