#Amazon MGM Studios is planning to produce a film project titled "Razzlekhan," focusing on Heather Morgan, known as a "comedic rapper," and her involvement in laundering more than 3 billion dollars in Bitcoin.
The Plot of the Film: #Bitcoin Laundering by a Couple
The film is based on the case of laundering billions of dollars in Bitcoin, linked to the 2016 hack of the cryptocurrency exchange #Bitfinex . According to a recent report from Deadline, Amazon is preparing an adaptation of the story of Ilya Lichtenstein and Heather Morgan, known as the "Bitcoin Bonnie and Clyde." The screenplay is inspired by a 2022 New York Times article.
Details of the Bitfinex Hack and the Couple's Method
Following the attack on Bitfinex in August 2016, where about 119,754 #BTC were stolen, Lichtenstein and Morgan allegedly laundered more than 94,643 BTC through complex transactions across various accounts and platforms. U.S. authorities detained the couple in February 2022 and seized Bitcoins valued at approximately 54 million dollars at the time of the hack, which had grown to more than 3 billion dollars by the time of their arrest.
Plea Agreement and Admissions of Guilt
In August 2023, Lichtenstein confessed to conspiracy to launder money, and Morgan admitted to the conspiracy related to money laundering and conspiring against the United States. The proposed film title "Razzlekhan" comes from Morgan's nickname as a "disrespectful comedic rapper."
Other Studios and Documentaries on Cryptocurrencies
The story of Lichtenstein and Morgan, though dramatic, is not the only one that has caught the attention of filmmakers. Many studios are exploring characters in the crypto world through documentaries. Following the collapse of #FTX and the 2022 arrest of former CEO Sam "SBF" Bankman-Fried, there have been rumors of a documentary mapping his relationship with Changpeng Zhao, the former head of Binance. In 2022, Netflix also released a documentary about the life and death of QuadrigaCX founder Gerald Cotten, who left users without access to millions of dollars in cryptocurrencies.
