Feast day (3rd Day in the Octave of Christmas)

The one disciple who didn’t run.
He stood at the foot of the Cross when everyone else scattered, took Mary into his home, and got entrusted with the Mother of God.

Tradition says they tried to kill him too: boiled in oil in front of the Colosseum… and he walked out untouched. Exiled to Patmos instead, where he received the Apocalypse and wrote the words that still shake the world: “In the beginning was the Word…”

Patron of theologians, writers, publishers, and anyone who loves too much to stay silent.

He leaned on Jesus’ chest at the Last Supper — the only one brave enough to rest in the Sacred Heart while the others argued about greatness.

White vestments today, but the cup he holds is mixed with a dragon: the poison that couldn’t kill the love that outlived the Roman Empire.
