I keep thinking about something that gets overlooked in the tokenized securities conversation.

We talk a lot about putting stocks and bonds on-chain, but what happens after you actually own one?

You still need dividends. You may need to vote. You might have to deal with other shareholder actions.

That’s the part that makes ownership feel real.

And honestly, I don’t think everything should be public just because it’s on a blockchain.

If I own a security, why should everyone be able to see my financial details?

Selective disclosure feels much more practical to me. I should be able to prove I’m eligible without exposing my entire financial life.

That’s where I think Dusk has an interesting opportunity.

I used to think blockchain privacy was pretty straightforward: hide the transaction details, and that’s it. But the more I looked into Dusk, the more I realized there’s a lot more going on underneath.
What really caught my attention is the cryptography. Dusk isn’t simply putting a privacy layer on top of everything. It’s building privacy into the core of the system using things like BLS12-381, JubJub, Schnorr, Poseidon, Merkle trees, and PLONK.
PLONK is especially interesting to me because it allows someone to prove that something is valid without having to reveal all the information behind it. That feels much more relevant when you start thinking about actual financial use cases.
Because honestly, financial markets can’t just expose everything publicly. At the same time, they can’t work on “trust me” either. There has to be a balance between privacy and verification.

I kept banging my head against this for days.

My thinking was simple: Phoenix encrypts the notes. The transfer disappears. Sender, receiver, amount all hidden.

So if my DUSK is already private inside Phoenix, why would sending that same DUSK into Rusk suddenly require a different kind of privacy?

It felt like sealing a letter in an envelope, then being told I need a new envelope just because I’m handing it to someone else.

Then it finally clicked.

A smart contract isn’t just another receiver.

Phoenix is built to move value privately. Rusk is where that value actually does something gets computed, swapped, or triggered by conditions involving other private inputs.

And that’s where encrypted notes hit a wall.

You can keep a note sealed while moving it around. But you can’t perform meaningful computation on what’s inside without a way to work with the encrypted data.

That’s the job Zilch is solving.

Same DUSK. Different context. Different privacy problem.

Phoenix gets the value there privately.

Zilch keeps it private while the value actually works inside Rusk.

I was treating privacy like one blanket: private is private.

But it’s not.

Moving something privately and computing on it privately are two completely different problems.

That distinction finally made the whole architecture click for me.
