Owners of Dogecoin NFT are working with the local government to create a monument in honor of Kabuso, the dog that inspired the meme.

The group, in collaboration with the City of Sakura, aims to unveil the monument in Sakura, Japan, on November 2—the designated birthday of Kabuso. Furusato Square, the intended location for the monument, is rumored to be a place that Kabosu and her owner frequent regularly.

In a statement to CoinDesk, Tridog of PleasrDAO said, "We've been operating for more than two years, bringing Doge to places she's never been, including Hollywood, EDM bangers, and space (The Doge NFT going on a SpaceX mission to moon)."

History of Doge Memes

The doge meme was created earlier in 2010 by photographer Atsuko Sato after she took a shot of Kabosu and its owner and posted it on a blog. John Monarch, who posted Atsuko's photo on Reddit, gave her the nickname "doge," which helped the meme go viral.

Kabuso was one of the first memes and has since become a mainstay of online culture. Following these developments, Dogecoin was created in 2013 and additional dog-themed currencies soon followed. At their height of popularity, these tokens had market capitalizations in the billions of dollars.
