Hong Kong's Legislative Council approved a crypto tax-information reporting bill on Nov. 4 that requires covered providers to start gathering customer data in 2027. The Inland Revenue Department will begin sharing the information with partner jurisdictions in 2028. The Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework imposes due diligence and annual reporting duties for tax transparency, rather than determining individual users' tax liabilities. The government says separate amendments to the Common Reporting Standard take effect in 2028, with international exchanges beginning in 2029.
